Diabetics at Village Inn

Village Inn is a tough place for diabetics, and you must be extra cautious while ordering food at the Village Inn, especially if you're a diabetic. The food items low in sodium are high in sugar or cholesterol at Village Inn which makes it difficult for diabetics to choose the right food at the diner.

Foods to Avoid at Village Inn for Diabetics

Village Inn offers very few items edible for diabetics without any threat. You can avoid sandwiches and burgers at Village Inn and try the light breakfast items on the menu. You must also skip the shakes as well as other juices from the beverage menu. Almost all the dinner items on the menu are high in sodium except Grilled Tilapia and 6 oz. Top Sirloin & Toast. Spent my 38th Birthday at this Hotel. Its charm is enhanced by a beautiful location. If it wasn't in the heart of Jim Thorpe, I would have given it a 2 star rating. The outside appearance drastically changes once you enter the door. It has a 1970's smell. The kind that smells like old cigarette. The ladies at the front desk were nice but lacked a level of professionalism. They were accommodating but seemed to be hiding some kind of joke. I guess it could have been me. Because we checked in early, there were still cleaning personnel in the room next door. They were loud, obnoxious and complained of there work with expletives! It was a good thing we weren't there for more then one night. The room itself was plain and simple. It had plenty of space and accommodated everything I had. Jim Thorpe is a great town, but would recommend some where else to stay.

This is a slightly complex one as it has to be reviewed both as hotel and restaurant. The hotel I have no hesitation in giving 5 stars. The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. Lovely little room with a balcony and the convenience of a fridge, microwave and Keurig. Huge comfortable bed, proper bath and shower. The only thing not quite as good was the small TV. I would have liked a larger screen. But that was my only drawback. The hotel is right in the centre of everything so once you have secured parking, (they have 2 lots), almost everything is within walking distance. Thanks Jim for your help in making our stay excellent. Now my gripe. If you have the midweek getaway, you are given breakfast vouchers and a $30 per person meal coupon so of course you will want to have dinner there. I thought the restaurant wasn't as good as the hotel. My beef medallions were in a sauce too rich and sweet. OTT. And they weren't really medallions, more like sirloin tips so quite tough. Medallions can be cut with a fork. And although it wasn't on the menu, I was given a bunch of squash which I HATE. Had it been on the menu, I would have substituted. Breakfast was Eggs Benedict but the Hollandaise was very acidic. Very unpleasant breakfast waitress!!! The 2nd night was better. A really good NY strip, perfectly cooked with an excellent Chimichurri sauce. French toast breakfast the 2nd morning was excellent. However, had I been given the choice, I would have eaten at one of the many recommended restaurants in the town. So ultimately, stay here but don't get drawn into eating there. You can do better with food but not accommodation.

My boyfriend and I made a last minute decision to stay here Friday 3/13/15. We called to see if there were any vacancies and were happy to find they had as it was in close driving distance to Penn's Peak. The staff at the desk were friendly and welcoming. Our room was unfortunately on the first floor but was super clean and cozy. After some hoping around town we ended up spending the rest of our night in the bar/restaurant attached to the hotel instead of going to Penn's Peak at all. The whole experience was great and we look forward to returning!

We very much enjoyed our short stay at the Inn at Jim Thorpe. Our room was lovely, clean, and overlooked historic Broadway. It included King bed, a 2-person jacuzzi tub plus a shower, a sitting area, and a keurig plus plenty of coffee. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The only challenging point for us, coming from a very rural setting, was that it was loud for sleeping - train whistles, the clock tower, people and cars on the street, and then the 5 am garbage trucks. Otherwise, everything about the hotel and the room was great. We will stay again!

Room 317 was very clean, comfortable and has an awesome 2 person jacuzzi tub. I enjoyed the complimentary chocolate chip cookies on check in along with the K-cups/kuerig provided in the room. The only negative was the Parking situation.

I discovered the Inn when I needed a hotel to help break up a 12 hour drive home. The Ramada ended up being $50+ more expensive - I was thrilled that they could accommodate a late arrival without charging me an arm and a leg. (I called to inquire about a room at 6 and was in my hotel room at 6:30.) The Inn's parking lot is quite limited so be aware of that. One of the folks at the front desk offered to move her car so I could park there and I was very appreciative if that! There is street parking - metered until about 6 pm - so there are alternatives. I also was very glad that they had a restaurant attached. I got to sit on the balcony and highly recommend getting one of those tables if it's nice out. The food is pretty good - some was pretty pricey. My salmon was great but the sides were a bit eh. The wine and dessert were amazing! The room itself was pretty small but well maintained. Also, I was a late arrival, staying for one night and by myself. I didn't need a huge room. There seems to be a small front desk staff - two or one whenever I went by - and they were always friendly. I can see longer lines on busier days. It's an old building so I heard a lot if my neighbors but the front desk had earplugs, so problem solved!

This hotel was overpriced in that the best thing I can say about it is that it was clean. There was absolutely nothing terribly special about it. I am completely dismayed by the attitudes of the people who work there. It's almost as if they are doing me a favor by letting me stay there. My husband and I are very easy friendly customers which makes it very hard for me to articulate this. One of the desk clerks actually rolled his eyes and admonished us for a parking error we'd made (not getting permit before parking in the assigned lot ) I want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but I truly feel as though I wasted my vacation time and money in Jim Thorpe and most especially at this hotel. We had a spirited conversation with one of the housekeeping employees so hats off to her for at least making us feel welcome.

We just returned from 2 days at the Inn At Jim Thorpe and we loved it. An old historic building with tons of character and charm made up for the cold and snowy weather. We met up with a bunch of friends for a getaway and had such fun. We've been to Jim Thorpe many times to ride the bike trails and see the sights but this is our first time to stay over and glad we stayed there. The rooms are large for an old building, plus ours had a whirlpool tub and fireplace. It was amazingly clean and fresh feeling for something 150 yers old. There is a restaurant on site with a good menu and everything is walking distance so we never drove anywhere once we parked, and that was free, along with free wifi. We had 2 breakfasts there and 2 dinners in the restaurant and there are several other restaurants close by. Most of the businesses were closed because of the extreme weather but we still enjoyed walking around and taking in the sites..There is a bar on sight for drinks which we hung out at for a few hours each night. We will be back.

We are still here and are loving the relaxation. Comfortable clean room and nice people. Get a room on the second floor with a porch overlooking Broadway. Eat at Encore restaurant. Five stars for that too. Took a 15 mile bike ride along the river. Very peaceful and easy ride. Overall, enjoyed immensely.

I would have given this 5 stars had it not been for my second day experience. I loved my room. I loved the people. However, I went there to get away from the noise of the city and at six a.m. the second morning (yes 6 a.m.) a diesel truck pulled up below my window for a delivery and stood with the engine running for 20 minutes (yes, 20 minutes) I finally called the front desk and was told that the truck had food in it so it had to keep running. Well either tell Mr. Trucker to deliver at a reasonable hour or tell him to shut off the engine because the food is likely to be fine and your guests' comfort should be paramount, if you want guests to eat that food. After this truck finally left, another diesel garbage truck pulled in--about 6:30am and proceed to clink and clank garbage into its back end while running the loud, stinking engine for 10 minutes. I called front desk again and was told me that the owner who would be in after 9--I guess he was getting HIS beauty rest. She then proceeded to defend the trucks, at which point I told her that I really didn't want to have a conversation about loud diesel engines at 6:30 in the morning. A hotel should get it that people are staying there for a pleasant, restful experience, don't you think?

The Inn at Jim Thorpe is one of the nicer historic hotels. The exterior is well maintained and attractive. The interior and rooms and modern and comfortable. The sloping floors are a reminder that you are in an old building that has seen a lot of history. Unfortunately the streets are noisy and that affects the nighttime sleeping.

  • Greg T.

Solid accommodations for a historic inn. Room was quite large with a clean, well lit bathroom. Décor was a bit dated but fitting with the property. Service was accommodating and recommended several other places to dine in the area since we came off-season and only their restaurant was open. Parking was easy as they have their own lot. Worth staying at but come in the warmer weather when the town is active and there are more activities to enjoy.

Stayed here one night. Had a room on the second floor in the front of the building right near the balcony. The room was clean and very spacious. Hidden in the closet we fount a microwave and fridge. Front desk was friendly. We enjoined sitting on the balcony and listening to the music from the club down the street. Classic old Inn within walking distance to attractions. Would stay here again.

Of all the times visiting Jim Thorpe this was the first time spending the night. It was not a disappointment. The staff were kind and courteous, parking wasn't a hassle, free wifi and the adjoining restaurant/bar was fantastic. I'm sure we are going to be returning next time we come to town.

Stayed here this past weekend and, though not cheap, it was a beautiful inn in the most central location of Jim Thorpe. The other thing that really sold me on this place was the fact that they did not have a minimum stay. All of the B&Bs in the area have at least a two night minimum - I was only staying one night. I'll definitely be back.

We stayed in the "Broadway 55" building adjacent to the main Inn on Broadway. The rooms, as I understand it, are newly renovated. There are less rooms than the main building, so it seems to be quieter. Room 5531 is a mini-suite with in-room two-person jacuzzi tub (no, not heart shaped), fireplace (stand-alone fire furnace) and separate bathroom with stand-up shower. The bed was comfy although I'd probably bring my own pillows next time. We stayed two nights and did the usual touristy things - perusing the antique shops and other knick-knacks, ate at the local restaurants and took in the Christmas decorations. Free wi-fi a plus as were the $7/per person breakfast vouchers at the Broadway Bar and Grill in the main property's building. Breakfast was decent and hearty - we were advised to make reservations but walked in for last minute eats at 10:45 and had no wait. The pre-checkin email advised us that room 5531 was "above a bar that played live music until 11pm" and might be loud. There was no bar in our building, I wonder if they confused the email with a room in the main Inn above the Broadway Bar? Still, the town's church bells were more deserving of a warning. I get the charm, and they're lovely. However I did not understand the random Christmas carols via Church Bells for an hour straight at 9am on a Sunday. And repetitive. No sleeping in here! In all, a great location to center your weekend getaway.

I want to love the Inn at Jim Thorpe. I really do. I just don't. The Inn is a great old building located right in the heart of Jim Thorpe. It's purportedly haunted (I'll get to that in a minute), offers pretty reasonable rates, and is within walking distances of lots of fun activities. I took a friend to visit in the early summer. Upon arrival we were put through a grilling about the details of our vehicle and given a pass for free parking. The grilling, we were told, was to assure the free parking was used by guests and not freeloaders. Good policy. If it worked. Our room was nice. Clean and simple. No frills but reasonable for the rate. Until the ghosts appeared. I don't mean cold chills kinda ghosts. Oh wait, I do. It was the ghost of water pressure and temperature. Let's put it like this: Ah, warm. AHAHAHA HOT HOT HOT. OH OH OH OH COLD! I suppose one can give credit for the age of the building, but given it was renovated fairly recently, adequate plumbing seems a must. Taking a shower was extruciating - with the fires of hell replaced with chilling ghostly fingers. I came to dread shower time in the days we were there. Oh, and another ghost: the ghost of parking. And customer service. On our first night we took our car to the local drive in theater (Becky's - don't miss it!). Returning, we found the lots full - of freeloaders. We counted nine spaces taken by cars without permits. When we asked the front desk clerk about this, she couldn't have been ruder. Fuck off to the county lot we were told. Yes, fuck off. Those words. So, we paid for parking. The second night was no better. Same surly service, same lack of parking. The ghost of parking enforcement floated above Jim Thorpe. Would I stay here again? I'm not sure. Probably not if I could find another hotel nearby. Or maybe just for one night. Then I'd want a real shower.

Spent my birthday celebration here with my guy in mid October. We biked and hiked and found the area, especially with the fall colors, to be outstanding. Our stay was very pleasant and memorable. The inn was comfortable and romantic. We will stay here again and would recommend this very nice, quaint inn.

Front desk guy was great! On arrival he asked if we picked the room we had for a reason and we said no the computer picked it. He then said it was one of their smallest room, we said we didn't mind it would be ok. we got our key and saw it was on a different floor than the original room was to be on. when we got to the room he had upgraded us to one of the nicest king bed rooms in the place. the room was spotless and very nice ,would stay here again without a thought. also A great breakfast in the morning

more of a mom and pop hotel with rustic-european-victorian-esque charm. will this place might have actually gotten five stars without the personal magic which bumped it up to five in my book. we checked in super late (or early) and were allowed to check out super late (5pm). people were acutally waiting for us at the door it seemed. free parking. free wifi. $7 voucher for breakfast. comfy kig bed in a cozy room. personal magic in that room. neat 2f balcony overlooking the downtown street... i thought the price was spot on! we will return...

The Inn at Jim Thorpe is one of the best moderately-priced places I've ever stayed. The staff is VERY friendly. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The hotel's location is dead-in-the-center of the small town and overall the place just has a really great vibe and history. We ate 3x at the restaurant on the ground floor: once for the dinner and the first night and once for breakfast each morning (vouchers make breakfast almost free). The food wasn't anything to fawn over but it was very good and much better than anything you'd find in a chain restaurant. We stayed on the 4th floor in a LARGE (wheelchair accessible) room. No sign of hauntings, although since we stayed during the Autumn festival we had to listen to a crooner on the street for several hours Saturday night. Despite the street noise from some bar-goers the hotel is very cozy and quiet. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. It's very charming.

Excellent location, lovely historical building, moderate prices. We stayed in a "mini-suite" with a whirlpool and fireplace. There's a great balcony overlooking downtown Jim Thorpe that I'm sure is wonderful in warmer weather. Sometimes older buildings and historical hotels are quite shabby and have let themselves go (Congress Plaza Hotel in Chicago, I'm looking at you) but that is not the case with the Inn at Jim Thorpe. It's well-maintained, extremely convenient to downtown, and a nice place to stay for a quick romantic getaway.

Loved this place! My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon and we loved how close it was to everything we wanted to do. We only drove twice the entire week. We had no problem with parking - the hotel has two lots, the other being across the street. I would take the $7 breakfast voucher over a continental breakfast any day - everything we ordered for breakfast was awesome and we felt there was a much better selection than any hotel. Our room was big, clean, and homey. We didn't have our room serviced every day since we were staying for the week, but a basket of fresh towels and toiletries was always waiting for us when we got back. We went to the bar a few times and I had some awesome chocolate martini's. While we booked 6 months in advance, they were running a special at the last minute. When I called the week of, they granted us the special which saved us a lot of money. The staff was friendly and we had a great time meeting some people out on the balcony. We definitely want to go back and will be staying there again!

We had a nice time at our visit to Jim Thorpe for my boyfriend Sean's birthday. I booked the romance package which included a 2 night stay at the inn, a 55 minute couples' massage, $7 breakfast vouchers for myself and my bf both mornings at the Broadway Grille, $30 vouchers for each of us to dinner at the Broadway Grille one night and a bottle of wine and chocolate covered pretzels for $490. When we checked in we were given a parking pass, which was great because parking seems to be pretty tight, especially when there's snow on the ground, and 2 warm cookies. I thought the cookies were a nice touch. Our room (214) was large with a king bed and a nice flat-screen TV. I was kind of relieved, but also kind of disappointed that our room wasn't haunted. I had read a lot of articles about how certain rooms were, but I guess room 214 is a safe bet if you don't want to be scared. The wine we had in our room was from the Big Creek winery around the corner, which we went to later to pick up some more bottles. The Inn has an old fashioned charm and felt cozy. If I were to recommend a place for someone to stay in Jim Thorpe, the Inn is a comfy and reasonably-priced place to stay right in the heart of the town.

Great inn with romantic charm! If you are in town, you must stay here. Fantastic central location to all hot spots in Jim Thorpe. Park your car and see it at the end of your trip. Your stay entitles you to a breakfast voucher at the inn's restaurant. Also, best massage ever! Don't leave without getting a spa treatment from Brenda. Overall-- great place.. clean, comfortable, and charming!

The room was beautiful! flat screen, coffee-maker, environmentally-conscious toiletries, HBO. The manager at the front desk was pretty unfriendly and we had a bit of trouble trying to order room service. The restaurant was ok, but soooo expensive! but we got along fine ordering sides. the continental breakfast is basically inedible as to be expected. but in terms of the actual room it was awesome!

I have been staying at the Inn for 5-6 years now, and I've always had good experiences there. THE GOOD: Rooms: Clean Beds: Comfortable Room Service: Fast Housekeeping: Very nice, never had any issues. Wifi: Free, and pretty good as far as speed goes. I've definitely had much worse in business hotels Ive stayed in in the past. Check-in: They give you cookies. That's awesome. The employees who work the front and who are nice are extremely helpful. A couple are not but maybe they are just bad apples. I keep my interaction with those people to a minumum. THE BAD (AND THE UGLY): Room Decor: Very 1950's grandma. One room I stayed in I counted no less than 15 flower pictures on the wall. It is quaint though. I guess. It's just a room and isnt really enough to bother me, but I thought it bears mentioning as some people like more modern rooms. Towels: They only give you one set of towels per person per day. Given that most people go to JT to do outdoor activities like hiking and biking, I think 2 sets per person, per day (like every other hotel) would be more appropriate. If you leave a note for housekeeping asking for extra, they will oblige, so that is good. Shampoo/Conditioner: They do not provide you with mini-bottles, like every other hotel. Instead, they have these vats of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash attached to the wall of the shower which I would never use, because who knows what is in it, or how long it's been there. If you are staying here, be sure to bring your own. Price: In my opinion, the Inn is pretty pricey considering. I guess they can get away with it, because if you dont like B&Bs, the Inn is really your only other option in town. Breakfast: The Inn has an attached restaurant. The food is good, but service is extremely slow when you are eating in the actual restaurant. The servers dont seem to know what they are doing. When we showed up last time, the place was empty, and a group of 5-6 employees stood in a corner staring at us, before finally coming over to seat us. There was another group in front of us waiting to be seated. I dont know how long they were waiting while being stared at by the creepy group. Noise: LOUD. The walls are very thin, and so if you have a noisy group on your floor, you will hear everything. Not really the inn's fault, just something to keep in mind. Churchbells on Sunday morning: They ring for about an hour straight starting at 8am i believe. Plan on being up early, unless you're dead, you wont be able to sleep through it. Again, not the Inn's fault, but it bears mentioning. Rooms in general: The 3rd/4th floors are the best in my opinion. If you stay on the second floor in the front, you unfortunately have the balcony right outside your room. Unless you like the people on the balcony (and there are always people on it) being able to look right into your room, you will have to keep the blinds shut, which then gives the room a very dark and dreary appearance. I prefer the upper floors for this reason. All in all, you take it for what it is. It's a decent place to stay for a couple of nights, because how much time are you actually going to be spending in your room. In my opinion, this place falls between a hotel and a B&B, even though they call themselves a hotel. As mentioned, bring your own shampoo/conditioner, ask for extra towels if you need them, and be sure to allow at least an hour if you are going to eat at the Broadway Grille for breakfast.

Stayed two nights in early August, great location, fun activities for active types, the onsite breakfast was excellent, I would stay here again. This is a charming, historic hotel. This is not a chain hotel, its an updated, old building, if you want cookie cutter, don't stay here.

I've stayed here twice and overall it was a good experience both times. The rooms were clean and and recently renovated. The location in the downtown area is convenient and parking is easily accessible. The new Broadway Grille located inside the Inn is nicely decorated and the wait staff and bartenders ware very friendly and the food was quite tasty. The front desk staff at the Inn, however, could use some customer service training. They are genuinely uninterested and unhelpful. See examples below. ***The following stories are the direct result of poor AT&T signal in the area, hence my bf's iPhone didn't really work. Verizon, my carrier, has excellent signal but I'm too cheap to get a smartphone. If we had a working iPhone and didn't require assistance I would have given four stars.*** example #1: En route to The Inn, my traveling companion realized that he had forgotten to pack shoes. I suggested calling The Inn to see if they could help us find some. After explaining the situation and asking if there were any shoe stores in or on the way into town the response was one word, "NO." He then said "Really?" Again, one word, "Nope." That pretty much ended the call. However, the first random person behind a counter in a shop in town informed us that there was a shoe store about 3 miles away. Had the front desk clerk been helpful, we could have stopped before check-in as the shoe store was on the way into town about a half mile off the road on which we were traveling when we called. It was a Pay-Less and THE ONLY SHOE STORE IN THE ENTIRE COUNTY!!! example #2: While enjoying ourselves in The Broadway Grille (inside The Inn, mind you) my traveling companion went to the front desk to inquire about reservations at a nearby restaurant. The front desk clerk wrote a phone number on a piece of paper and handed it to him. When he explained about the poor cell signal and asked if he could use the phone she said "You can use the phone in your room." When he said that he was dining just a few feet away and wanted to get back to the table quickly she said "oh, ok" pushed the phone at him and turned away. The front desk clerk in both situations was the same person, she had a distinct accent that was definitely not among the Pennsylvania dialects, one or two states to the east was more like it (NJ or NY). I found it unacceptable that she didn't call the restaurant and say "Hi, this is so-and-so from The Inn, I have a guest that would like to make a reservation"... and, well you get the picture. But, not knowing where the only shoe store in the county is, now that's just mind boggling. But, due to the nature of her job behind a desk I never did see that she actually had any feet.

The room was beautiful and being right in the middle of town was great. I especially liked the "green" bath supplies. The restaurant was closed for renovation but we were given vouchers for breakfast at the Allbright Mansion. Their breakfast's were excellent. My only complaints would be that our room wasn't cleaned until 2:00 in the afternoon, and the front desk staff need some training in customer relations. Our check-in was easy, but after that it's as if you don't exist. We probably passed through the lobby 10 times a day, yet no one at the front desk ever bothers to look up and acknowledge you. A simple "good morning" or even just a smile would have been appreciated.
